Congressional leaders McCarthy, McConnell, Jeffries and Schumer have invited India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak to Congress on June 22, 2023. This is outrageous.  Modi’s massive purchases of Russian oil are sabotaging efforts of Ukrainians to resist Putin’s invasion.

His BJP political party has created conditions for potential civil unrest through militarized incursions challenging the sovereignty of regions such as Kashmir and the Northeastern states. The policies of his government have resulted in rendering more than 2 million Muslims stateless, the disappearance and incarceration of thousands of individuals, millions of deaths during the pandemic, and dispossessing people from their livelihoods and homes. Experts from two leading human rights organizations - Amnesty International USA and Genocide Watch - have warned that Modi’s Islamophobic policies and state sponsorship of Hindu extremists are pushing India towards mass violence and even massacres of Muslims. 

Unemployment rates are high and poor families are stretched to their limits. The dilution of labor laws and the fiscal policies have exacerbated the vulnerability of the working poor. His anti-worker plans provoked the largest general strike in India's history.

He is certainly no friend of average Americans or of people worldwide who want democracy and justice.  He does not deserve the honor of speaking to Congress.  #WithdrawInvitationToModi
