Withdraw NSA Charges and Release Labour Rights Activists and journalists in Noida
The Issue
We, the undersigned members of trade unions, labour rights organizations, civil society groups, student collectives, democratic forums, and concerned citizens from Gujarat and across India, express deep concern regarding the arrests of labour rights activists, journalists, and democratic voices in connection with the workers’ protests in Noida in April 2026.
We are particularly alarmed by the invocation of the National Security Act (NSA) against individuals associated with workers’ movements and democratic mobilization.
The use of stringent national security laws against people standing with workers and marginalized communities raises serious concerns about democratic freedoms, constitutional rights, and the shrinking space for dissent in India. Peaceful labour organizing, journalism, and raising concerns regarding workers’ rights cannot be treated as threats to national security.
Labour struggles, trade union activities, and democratic protests are legitimate constitutional rights guaranteed under Article 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India. Criminalising labour solidarity and democratic expression undermines the principles of justice, liberty, and equality upon which our Constitution stands.
On 16th May 2026, members of Asangathit Shramik Hitrakshak Manch, Gujarat — a coalition of trade unions and workers’ organisations — conducted a meeting to discuss the issue and collectively raise democratic demands for justice.
We demand -
- Immediate withdrawal of all charges under the National Security Act (NSA) against the arrested activists, journalists, and labour rights defenders.
- Immediate release of all those arrested in relation to the workers’ protests and labour mobilizations in Noida.
- Assurance that democratic protests, trade union activities, and labour organising efforts will not be criminalised.
- Initiation of dialogue with workers’ organisations and trade unions to address labour grievances through democratic and lawful means.
We urge the Government of Uttar Pradesh to uphold constitutional values, democratic rights, and civil liberties.

हम, गुजरात तथा देशभर के ट्रेड यूनियनों, श्रमिक अधिकार संगठनों, नागरिक समाज समूहों, छात्र संगठनों, लोकतांत्रिक मंचों और चिंतित नागरिकों के हस्ताक्षरकर्ता, अप्रैल 2026 में नोएडा में हुए मजदूर आंदोलनों के संबंध में श्रमिक अधिकार कार्यकर्ताओं, पत्रकारों और लोकतांत्रिक आवाज़ों की गिरफ्तारी पर गहरी चिंता व्यक्त करते हैं।
विशेष रूप से, हम श्रमिक आंदोलनों और लोकतांत्रिक संगठनों से जुड़े व्यक्तियों पर राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा अधिनियम (NSA) लगाए जाने की कड़ी निंदा करते हैं।
जो लोग मजदूरों और हाशिये पर रह रहे समुदायों के साथ खड़े हैं, उनके खिलाफ कठोर राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा कानूनों का इस्तेमाल लोकतांत्रिक अधिकारों, संवैधानिक स्वतंत्रताओं और देश में असहमति की घटती जगह पर गंभीर सवाल खड़े करता है। शांतिपूर्ण श्रमिक संगठन, पत्रकारिता और मजदूरों के अधिकारों की बात करना राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा के लिए खतरा नहीं माना जा सकता।
श्रमिक संघर्ष, ट्रेड यूनियन गतिविधियाँ और लोकतांत्रिक विरोध प्रदर्शन भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 19 और 21 द्वारा प्रदत्त वैध संवैधानिक अधिकार हैं। श्रमिक एकजुटता और लोकतांत्रिक अभिव्यक्ति का अपराधीकरण न्याय, स्वतंत्रता और समानता के संवैधानिक मूल्यों को कमजोर करता है।
16 मई 2026 को गुजरात के विभिन्न ट्रेड यूनियनों और श्रमिक संगठनों के गठबंधन “असंगठित श्रमिक हितरक्षक मंच” के सदस्यों ने इस मुद्दे पर चर्चा करने और न्याय की लोकतांत्रिक मांग उठाने के लिए एक बैठक आयोजित की।
हम निम्नलिखित मांग करते हैं -
- गिरफ्तार कार्यकर्ताओं, पत्रकारों और श्रमिक अधिकार रक्षकों पर लगाए गए राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा अधिनियम (NSA) के सभी आरोप तत्काल वापस लिए जाएँ।
- नोएडा के मजदूर आंदोलनों और श्रमिक संगठनों से जुड़े सभी गिरफ्तार लोगों को तुरंत रिहा किया जाए।
- यह सुनिश्चित किया जाए कि लोकतांत्रिक विरोध, ट्रेड यूनियन गतिविधियों और श्रमिक संगठन प्रयासों का अपराधीकरण नहीं किया जाएगा।
- श्रमिक संगठनों और ट्रेड यूनियनों के साथ संवाद शुरू कर श्रमिकों की समस्याओं का लोकतांत्रिक और कानूनी तरीके से समाधान किया जाए
हम उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार से अपील करते हैं कि वह संवैधानिक मूल्यों, लोकतांत्रिक अधिकारों और नागरिक स्वतंत्रताओं की रक्षा करे।
