The recent declaration by the Mayor of Kanpur and the Municipality of Punchkula to ban Pitbull Terriers and Rottweilers from of Kanpur and Punchkula on the basis of one incident of a dog attacking a cow is unfair to the millions of responsible Indian dog lovers. Purebred dogs have served mankind for centuries and are today helping to guard our borders, prevent narcotics and explosives from destroying our nation, and even providing security to national leaders. It is a matter of grave concern to the millions of dog lovers across India that anti-dog policies are being allowed to be formulated and implemented in any part of India. No breed of dog is in itself dangerous. Banning breeds have never proven successful in safeguarding citizens against dog bites in countries where they have been implemented. Promote responsible pet ownership instead of banning dogs who are a source of emotional support to millions of Indian families. No dog breed should be banned in India.
