Stop The Golden Sands Dairy CAFO
Stop The Golden Sands Dairy CAFO
The Issue
The Golden Sands Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO) in Saratoga Township, Wisconsin, scheduled to commence construction in Summer 2015, will pollute the environment and have a permanent negative effect on home values and the quality of life in the surrounding area. The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) prepared for the Golden Sands Dairy (GSD) CAFO, dated March 12, 2014, indicates a thorough investigation was conducted by the GSD consultants who clearly identify numerous hazardous risks to the environment and adjacent rural population. Chapter 2. NATURAL ENVIRONMENT AND POTENTIAL IMPACTS. Section 2.3.1 - Water Quantity. Subsection 2.3.1.4.1: "Proposed groundwater withdrawals for the GSD Project will lower groundwater levels in the vicinity of the GSD Project. For a residence with, for example, a fifteen foot drive point well, water level declines of less than five feet could potentially have an adverse effect on well yield." Section 2.3.2 - Groundwater Quality. Subsection 2.3.2.2.1: "...the sandy soil profiles in and around the GSD Project Area create a risk that GSD’s nutrient applications could affect groundwater quality..." The real risks of pollution and permanent damage to water and air quality on humans, wildlife, streams, rivers, wetlands, plants, etc. cited in the EIR, are too plentiful for one petition, and are proven by over 50 years of scientific study and analysis. Please remember you are a steward of the state of WISCONSIN. Your duty is to do what is right for the greater population of WISCONSIN. Stop the Golden Sands Dairy boondoggle.
