CANCEL THE WECHU CURFEW: Allow Windsor Bars & Restaurants To Get Back To Regular Business

The Issue

Please show your support by signing the petition on this page. We appreciate everyones support and hopefully this encourages a positive movement for Windsor & Essex County Restaurants, Bars, Nightclubs, and Banquet Venues.

The Vaccine Passport launch date has now passed, with the majority of Windsor restaurants, bars & nightclubs following these new requirements, but our Health Unit is still forcing a curfew, and not permitting indoor dancing (note: Windsor is the only region in the province with these restrictions).

Restaurants & bars in Windsor and Essex County are now being financially drained by these passports restrictions, the curfew restrictions, and all of the other hoops we have had to jump through since March 16 2020.

Our reasoning is very simple based on the fact that our customers inside the venue are now double vaccinated and must show proof of this before entering:

- Why are the punitive restrictions and curfews still in place for vaccinated customers?

- Why are there capacity and dancing restrictions for restaurants, bars and weddings when 100% of the customers inside a venue are vaccinated?

- The Ontario government doctors have no problem hugging a double vaccinated person, but people in Windsor Ontario can't dance together?

- If being double vaccinated is not the solution to reopening, then what is, and when will there be an end to restrictions?

We are begging the Windsor Essex County Health Unit to LOOSEN the tight rope they have around us and please let us go back to regular business hours and dance floors like the rest of the province. We have done everything you wanted - now it's time to let us get back on our feet!

Taking you back a couple weeks:

Effective September 7th 2021, WECHU issued a "Letter Of Instruction" to all Windsor and Essex County restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and adult entertainment facilities, to have a curfew of midnight, and not allow dancing of any kind inside these establishments.

Their reasoning for these targeted measures was made very clear by former Medical Officer Of Health, Dr. Wajid Ahmed of the WECHU during a conference call with 20 other business owners on September 7 at 2:45pm:

1) He stated on the call that a primary reason for these restrictions was the WECHU lack of funding, and ability to enforce restaurants & bars after midnight.

2) He stated on the call that COVID cases seem to rise after midnight.

These absolutely baseless claims by our Health Unit have caused dozens of bars and restaurants in Windsor to admit to being on "their last legs" financially because of how this has impacted their business.

We just want to operate out businesses until 2am and let our customers enjoy themselves responsibly.
