[NOW CLOSED] Protect Wilkeson & Burnett's Local Resources (No donations, please)
The Issue
The town of Wilkeson and unincorporated community of Burnett houses over 500 residents. (1) As one of the final frontiers before Mount Rainier National Park, Wilkeson and Burnett operate on limited services, including one single-lane road in and out of town, one gas station, one fire station, and one elementary school. Wilkeson and Burnett residents have enjoyed small-town living for decades, with a limited history of expansion. Many residents enjoy the rural living Wilkeson and Burnett provides, including minimal light and noise pollution, few traffic frustrations, beautiful mountain scenery, and limited residential restrictions that typically result of small-town-supporting city councils.
Wilkeson and Burnett residents have watched neighboring cities of Enumclaw and Buckley rapidly expand, aren’t shy to what the expansion of residents ultimately leads to; the “Enumclaw/Buckley Traffic Crawl”, increased petty crime reports, relocation of wild animals to residential areas, destruction of natural resources and environment, and ultimately frustrated citizens who have chosen rural lifestyles and don’t want to live in highly developed areas.
This petition contains signatures from local residents (affected Carbonado included) who request that Wilkeson City Council and Burnett Water District members deny rights to developers interested in building a housing development along the Carbonado South Prairie Road clearing, currently planning to design roughly 70 homes.
We are calling on the following members of the Town of Wilkeson and Burnett Water District to act now and collaborate to prevent further expansion of our small town*:
Jeff Sellers (mayor@townofwilkeson.com)
Jennifer Kramer (jprovost@townofwilkeson.com)
Mark Zumba (mzumba@townofwilkeson.com)
Bambi Thawsh (bambi.thawsh@townofwilkeson.com)
Bill Summers (bsummers@townofwilkeson.com)
Rick Sellers (rsellers@townofwilkeson.com)
Robbin Harper (360.829.4380)
Bill Larson (360.829.1437)
Robert Harding (360.829.0644)
Sandy Harding (360.829.0644)
