Sea otters are one of the most important species in marine life. They eat sea urchins which helps keep the population of sea urchins balanced. Without sea otters, sea urchins can overpopulate the seafloor and devour the kelp forests that provide cover and food for many other marine animals. There are only 3,000 sea otters left in the world and a lot of them die each year due to oil spills in the sea. Sea otters groom themselves by licking their skin, and if that toxic oil is on their skin, it can damage their organs and kill them. 

Maybe the decline of sea otters doesn't seem like something important right now, but it actually is. If we don't have sea otters to eat sea urchins, then the sea urchins can overpopulate the seafloor and devour the kelp forests that provide cover and food for many other marine animals. We're risking the lives of other beautiful marine species.
