Widen Roadways Near Local Businesses for Safer Travel

The Issue

I, along with many residents and local businesses, struggle daily with the prevailing traffic issue in our area. The problem is simply this: The roads near our locality are dangerously narrow, allowing for only one-way traffic on what is supposed to be a two-way street. With a trucking business operating at the end of the road, there are wide loads that come in and out regularly, making it more congested and prone to accidents.

When an oncoming traffic vehicle approaches, one of us must yield to the shoulder of the road. This is both inconvenient and hazardous. Furthermore, the underlit stop signs and overgrown vegetation are contributing to the problem, disrupting vehicle operation and posing further risk to both drivers and pedestrians.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) recommends roadway widths considering various factors, including traffic volume and vehicle dimensions, which the present situation clearly does not adhere to. Therefore, we urgently call on the concerned authorities to resolve this issue. The road needs to be suitably widened, signages need proper illumination, and vegetation needs to be trimmed to restore safety on our streets.

Let’s make our streets safer and more readily accessible for everyone. That is why we are calling on you to sign this petition and demand action from our local authorities. Because road safety should be a right, not a privilege.
