Why Are My YouTube Comments About China Disappearing?

Why Are My YouTube Comments About China Disappearing?
The Issue
As a South Korean citizen, I’ve always respected American values—especially freedom of speech and the right to voice one’s conscience. In real life, I’ve only met kind, respectful Americans. But online, things feel very different.
Whenever I leave a comment on YouTube that criticizes the Chinese government or mentions sensitive topics like Hong Kong, Xinjiang, or the CCP, my comments often disappear without warning. Meanwhile, Chinese users are still allowed to post hateful or politically critical comments targeting Korea, and their messages stay up.
This is not just frustrating. It feels like digital discrimination.
I’ve realized that U.S. platforms may be self-censoring in order to protect business interests in China. Big Tech companies like Google (which owns YouTube) seem to be filtering out anti-CCP content—not because it’s hateful or false, but because it’s politically inconvenient.
Even worse, it appears that organized reporting from Chinese users can trigger automated deletion of critical posts, while voices like mine are silenced. Is this the future of the “free internet”To the American people and tech leaders:
You must know what’s happening. Many of us from Asia—Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong—are experiencing this unequal treatment. We ask you:
Don’t let the values of free speech be sold to authoritarian influence.
Stop automatic censorship that disproportionately targets critics of China.
Protect digital spaces where truth and fairness matter more than money or politics.I’m not trying to fight anyone. I simply want to be heard.
Silence may be safe, but it’s not justice.
