PORTLAND REVIVE! A multi-faceted proposal for The City of Portland.

PORTLAND REVIVE! A multi-faceted proposal for The City of Portland.
The Issue
What will it take for us to support the tent communities as they are transferred?
1.) First things first, we need to have a place for the houseless to go and way for them to get there. The thoughts are to start with getting the abandoned warehouses and buildings ready. Set up beds and mini clinics or stations where some services that are needed 24/7 are there onsite (working much like a facility that would have security, medical and nursing staff, counselors and social workers to de-escalate crises.)
2.) Volunteers to promote this new proposal and strategize timing of this group of promoters. On social media, flyers to every business, talking with people on the street about The Portland Clubhouses.
3.) After all the promoting of The Portland Clubhouses, we hold an open house, and redirect ALL agencies to donate their goods to one centralized point. So, if the houseless wanted to get all the freebies (food or clothing, warmed/cooled, showered or any of the other things given)...they have to go to the reformed space and NOT be met on the street with said needs.
4.) Recruit college interns: for translators, architects, planning and sustainability, midwives, counseling and other positions.
5.) We need bus drivers with security to bring those who cannot find their own transportation to The Welcome Center of The Portland Clubhouses.
Treating physical and mental health needs
1.) Get the members to a hospital if there were physical ailments that needed attention, then mental health addressed, counseling, groups, sessions, prescribed medication if needed, etc.
2.) Dietitians (interns) could then work with members on getting on a better diet. Sleep hygiene and other hygiene issues could be assigned to nursing students or sent to the hospital for that.
3.) As members work through each phase of their pathway; they would check back in with their case manager (daily/weekly/biweekly) to ensure they are hitting their specific goals.
4.) Not everyone will have the same needs; so each member will get an evaluation and if they progress faster than originally marked; proper adjustments will be made.
* The idea is to not let anyone get left behind, it is encouraging to have someone to be accountable to. It helps everyone to stay focused and each member will get introduced to the next phase of this pathway.
Houseless and squatters need a better solution.
We hear that shelters have beds and they are not occupied, so what’s the deal? Some of the houseless in the tent community do not want to move to places that hold rules and regulations. How do we appeal to those who seek squatters rights to “want” homeownership legally?
1.) All those who want to attend homeowner classes have to be redirected to The Welcome Center of The Portland Clubhouses.
2.) Once they register, follow the rules of the clubhouse, go through the process of houseless to homeowner or a myriad of program paths available. Then when it comes available a class for homeownership perhaps a paid position to get some employment in here too.
3.) If squatters go through the trouble to make all the fake documents to "appear" legit, what could we put in place for the real thing? Could we create a plan and be proactive about it?
The Life Skills Classrooms
The Portland Clubhouses should have instructors to teach classes.
- budgeting, clean up their credit
- classes for leadership
- resume writing, job interviews, skills to get hired
- matching likes and skills with real jobs
- home economics
- become taxpayers and voters
Multiple Housing Solutions
1.) Once hired, attending a budgeting and home management classes, members could move on to a homeowner class.
2.) For those who need assistance and/or rather apply to housing, Home Forward, could work with those members.
3.) If a member needs a residency with counselors, or reunite with family, etc.then an advocate would assist with all that.
Members will be running the space with staff.
As houseless enter and become members a prerequisite is for members to be part of the community and building respect in their new home.
1.) Members will take turns to cook, do laundry, go shopping and/or other tasks around The Portland Clubhouses.
2.) Members will answer phones and greet staff, liaisons and new members in.
3.) Members will take turns cleaning restrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, cafeterias and other shared spaces.
Rules and Regulations
1.) Each member will have a bed and a locker, with random inspections.
2.) Each member would be assigned to a caseworker (intern) and they would walk them through each phase of the process, until the member graduates or moves out.
3.) Everyone is treated with dignity. The rules are for building security, respect, and new relationships. No more division, no more putting each other down, everyone needs help at some point.
4.) There will be reformation for all those who need anger management. We need order and structure otherwise there is chaos.
5.) Being our brothers and sisters keeper! Buddy systems.
6. Everyone is accepted and given a chance, if there has to be alternative measures taken on a case-by-case position.
7.) Each member, volunteer, intern, staff member has the right to feel safe, secure and healthy. Any violations will be handled quickly and accordingly.
*** We will need volunteers, we will need people to spearhead this mission and we will need to revamp the way we do every day business.
Members will have the space and opportunity to worship.
Revival is here in America; let's give these members something they do not have; hope.
1.) Members who want to take part in services; can serve, share their testimonies, ask for help, there is a better solution in Jesus Christ.
2.) God is restoring families. God is Love. He wants to heal, strengthen, give the gifts and fulfill His promises. All we have to do is receive.
3.) Portland has tried government, agencies, and all these politicians and leaders are divided. What the whole nation is to turn back to God!
4.) God can turn opposition into opportunity, if we just humbled ourselves and asked for His wisdom, grace and love.
THE WELCOME CENTER for THE PORTLAND CLUBHOUSES
The Welcome Center for The Portland Clubhouses would be the gatekeeper for all points for new people who come through Portland. Since liaisons from every aspect of care will be working through here. The main building for The Portland Clubhouses, where everyone gets an opportunity to hear about the plans and the mission of this new community.
- A safe haven for EVERYONE to find out how they can reach out for help. Remember how charging devices was a problem? Everyone could charge their iPad, phone or device and find out what was going on while they wait. Safely.
- If someone just moved to Portland 211 Info could direct them to The Welcome Center.
- If any residents status changed and was looking for housing needs, safety from DV situations or other assistance they could be referred to The Welcome Center for The Portland Clubhouses.
- Stealing electricity happens. So, let's offer docking stations here.
- A safe haven for EVERYONE to find out how to get help quickly!!!
- Individuals would be able to foster new relationships.
- Potential for a cafe, coffee bar, food vendors.
- Potential for live music performances.
- It would be great to have a specific area for the public.
- A point of contact for all donations, volunteers, community leaders and vendors.
- It would be so cool to see everyone participate and take part in some way!!
- This could change the trajectory of what happens to Portland!
We all have VALUE!
Everyone needs someone; each person desires connections. Portland can come back to life. Please share any and all constructive criticism, ideas, questions, suggestions. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
