Who Speaks for the White House

The Issue

We the people deserve to know who speaks for the White House on social media, such as Twitter and Facebook. A lot of information is shared with the public through social media and the U.S. White House is considered to be a trusted authority on topics related to the U.S. government, including the administration, Congress, foreign policy, domestic policy, etc. Recently the information provided seems to be less informative and more individual statements and potentially even individual opinions without sources.

The White House is not a single person, as far as the people are aware the information could be coming from the Press Secretary, the President himself, or it could be an intern, as well as it could be different people at different times. U.S. citizen's tax money pays for the salary and services of the individuals sharing this information on social media and we deserve to know who is providing the information.

The intent of this petition is to request the names and titles of the people authorized to share posts on behalf of the U.S. White House, as well as to request that all future posts are signed by the individual making the post. If the White House accounts on social media are going to be used to share individual statements and opinions, much like the editorial articles of news agencies, then it should be labeled as such, including whom the information is coming from.
