This petition calls upon Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, and the Texas Rangers Public Integrity Unit to initiate an immediate and comprehensive investigation into systemic corruption and judicial misconduct within the family court system in Panola County.

Steven and Lisa Broomfield filed a lawsuit alleging corruption within Panola County’s legal system. Their legal action raised serious concerns about what they described as a “pay-to-play” culture within the county’s justice system and raised concerns about the mental capacity of Danny Buck Davidson, the longtime District Attorney of Panola County. Davidson is known nationally due to the East Texas criminal case portrayed in the film Bernie, starring Jack Black and Matthew McConaughey, in which McConaughey portrayed District Attorney Danny Buck Davidson.  The same individuals and institutions that once drew national attention were still active in the circle of corruption!

According to the Broomfields, after these corruption allegations were formally raised and the lawsuit was filed, retaliation began.

A six‑year‑old who has lived his whole life with a loving, stable family was removed from the only home he’s known and placed with a biological parent who IN HER OWN TESTIMONY admitted to continued drug use, facilitating delivery of trafficked drugs to her home, recent arrest and pending trial for felony burglary, a subsequent arrest a few weeks ago for violating her felony bond conditions, who admitted to ZERO rehab, ZERO parenting classes, who admits to violating supervision requirements of her visitation with the child, admits to having paid zero court ordered child support and having never contributed to the child's care, RAISES URGENT SAFETY CONCERNS.

The child was thriving in school, about to be tested for gifted and talented services, and was pulled away from the teacher, friends, and scouting troop he adored. The child made an outcry about fear for his safety with his bio mom to his school counselor in August and as soon as the crooked retired judge, Lauren Parish of Upshur County illegally granted Carly Asher Jones sole custody - she ripped him from everything he has ever known and has allowed zero contact with the family who has nurtured and raised him.

This is not just about one child’s safety. It is about fairness in a system where parents who never harmed their children are forced to fight for years and work services - while a child who was removed due to a parent who admits meth use before, during and after her pregnancy, with documented history of neglect/abuse is placed back with a parent who testified to continued substance use, a history of family violence, and allegations of sexual abuse are returned despite testimony and arrests.
