Add Cochlear Implant Emojis, WhatsApp.
The Issue
Can you help Amelia get to #WhatsApp? She would love Cochlear Implants Emoji!
I'm a mother of a 7 years old little girl. Her name is Amelia, she has bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss and a mild autism. Because of her condition we live very far from our Family and we communicate a lot through WhatsApp. The other day she asked me if she could use a Cochlear Implant Emoji. I told her that she can use a Hearing Aid Emoji since they don't have any and she was very disappointed. I say, you know what? You can make a letter and ask them to make one, maybe they will do it!
She made a letter for them and a beautiful picture of herself. I sent an email to WhatsApp with her letter and I asked if they are willing to consider adding Cochlear Implants Emojis. I got a few emails back saying that "Unfortunately, this feature isn't supported" and "We aren't planning any changes to the current list of emoji". Amelia, as many kids, are very proud of their Implants and so is the Cochlear Implant Community. I'm asking you to sign this petition so they can add Cochlear Implants emojis like Apple did on their platform. This is just a small step to continue advocating for our community. Cochlear Implants are NOT the same as Hearing Aids and we would love to have Cochlear Emojis that represent this wonderful technology in WhatsApp and all the platforms.
"A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that electrically stimulates the cochlear nerve (nerve for hearing). The implant has external and internal parts. Cochlear implant may be an option when hearing aids do not provide the clarity of sound needed to understand speech and spoken language. Children and adults who are deaf or severely hard-of-hearing can be fitted for cochlear implants. As the National Institute on Deafness and and other Communication Disorder (nidcd.nih.gov), as of December 2019, approximately 736,900 registered devices have been implanted worldwide. In the United States, roughly 118,100 devices have been implanted in adults and 65,000 in children".
Thank you for your support and love for Amelia.
Blessings,
Mary
