What you can do to curb gun violence

What you can do to curb gun violence
The Issue
Hello,
After the tragedy in Texas, the heartbreaking mass shooting at the Robb Elementary School. I am praying for those souls and families. In addition to the financial donations and blood donors, we might request our state representative and authorities to help us "stop the gun violence." In addition to the security measures that the schools are taking, we need police officers and security permanently in front of every public school.
- Protect the front doors with more locks, a thicker metal anti-weapon
- Double glass and unbreakable glass for the windows
- A rigorous training that teaches a safe space inside to hide in case of an emergency (Where teachers and students learn what, when, and how)
- Start a prevention program where all the students since the secondary start a mental health class and continue to high school to help build a strong foundation for our children.
- Expand the background check and make it more exhaustive and give a mental health test to know if this person has all the conditions to have a firearm and will not harm others or themselves.
As an article read in https://www.americanprogress.org; other ways to Curb Gun Violence in Texas (I will add not just in Texas everywhere in the United States);
- Address gun violence with racial equity and trauma-informed solutions. Gun violence affects every community differently and disproportionately affects Black and Hispanic communities. The root causes of gun violence must be addressed to solve this issue.
- Improve data collection and reporting. Insufficient data result in challenges in accurately demonstrating the crisis of gun violence.
- Protect and support survivors of domestic violence. Investments in domestic violence services and robust firearm surrender protocols for abusers are necessary to protect survivors.
- Partner with schools and school boards. Schools play a pivotal part in addressing gun violence among youth. Bringing gun violence prevention conversations and safe storage education into schools can help keep students safe.
- Create offices for gun violence prevention. A gun violence prevention office—or offices of violence prevention (OVPs)—within state and local government would offer coordinated efforts to distribute resources for violence-reduction strategies.
- Provide and promote guidance for safe storage of firearms in the home. Every year, children and others access unsecured guns in the house, causing death, injury, and theft. Safe storage guidelines significantly reduce the risk of unwanted access to firearms.
- Provide facilities where veterans and others in crisis can temporarily store their firearms in moments of crisis. Every year, thousands of veterans lose their lives to gun suicides. Establishing areas where they can safely store their guns in trouble is crucial.
I will be forever thankful to you feel empathy for those families and those innocent souls and for contributing to support passing the bill to control guns more drastically.
You can also help if you let this letter arrive at all the senators, governors, legislators, the white house, the department of education, scholar district attorneys, police officers, and much more.
God bless you all and protect your families, do not take a second for granted and express that you love them.
Best,
Artemis Diaz
