Save North Quay

Contrary to the expectations of Weymouth Council, on 31 July the developers lodged an appeal against the Council's decision that planning permission is required. This confirms our earlier suggestion that the developers are determined to proceed without making a full planning application.
This also confirms that it is still their intention to refurbish the current building with minimal external work being carried out. If this is the case it is unlikely that there will be any opportunity for archaeological excavation.
In the meantime the site has been strewn with large stone boulders to ensure that the town is immediately deprived of much need parking spaces long before any development work starts.
The Municipal offices were of course built on the site of the old Weymouth High Street which was wantonly demolished by an earlier Council. Perhaps it would therefore be fitting if they remain as a lasting memorial to the incompetence of the final Weymouth Council.
