Dear Westside Auto Wholesale, Please Just Do the Right Thing

The issue

On Aug 09, 2021, I went to Westside Auto Wholesale to buy a car as my old car was broke down and wanted to have a replacement car soon. In the discussion with the dealer about this car he said, all of their cars undergo multi-point independent mechanical inspection so I don’t have to worry about the quality of the car. Also since I had a previous car from them with a positive experience I didn’t think twice about his word. Furthermore, since I’m buying a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) car, when I have asked the agent about the battery quality. He said the battery comes with 8years/160,000km warranty so the EV battery of the car is still under the manufacturer’s warranty. What else I should be worrying about the choice? On Aug 11, 2021, I bought the car.

As soon as I got home I wanted to charge the car so I can go to work the next day in a fully charged car. Guess what, the dealer hasn’t included the charging cable. later that same day I messaged the dealer and arranged a day to pick up the car charging cable.

Two days later the Aug 13th, I noticed one of the wheel nuts is missing in the front left wheel. Message the dealer he said drop the car for one day or buy a wheel nut and they will pay for the bill. a few days later I bought a set of nuts, then realized the bolt shaft is broken and I cannot fit a nut in there. Talked to the dealer he said to bring back the car they will fix it. on Sep 15th, I dropped the car to replace the broken bolt and the dealer said I can pick up the car the next day. The next day I got a message saying the car is not ready yet they need one more day. On Sep 17th I picked up the car and the dealer said they had to remove the wheel to replace the bolt that’s why it took two days. I came home and removed the nut to inspect replaced bolt and what I found was they haven’t replaced the broken bolt but just put a nut on the broken bolt. The dealer kept my car for two days for no reason and lied about replacing the broken bolt.

On Sep 24th, I went to Melville Mitsubishi for an inspection of my EV battery as the fully charged battery is not giving me enough mileage as it is supposed to give. The report came out with a $14,928 quote saying “PHEV battery characteristics have expired over the natural course of time, replacement of PHEV battery unit required”. I asked about the manufacturer’s warranty they said this car has expired its warranty a while ago. Which the dealer lied about the warranty of the PHEV battery.

After all these disappointments I wanted to come to a solution with the dealer. So I have emailed them what troubles they put me in and I need compensation. Instead of a proper answer, they needed me to bring the car back to replace the bolt they lied before and undergo three days of PHEV battery test on my cost.

In my point, I did go to a well-established dealer to buy a car because I didn’t need any dramas after buying a car. And I didn’t think they would lie to sell cars. I picked the dream car which ticks above and beyond my needs. But unfortunately, it isn’t anymore. Also when I told the disappointments the dealer proposed me to trade in this car for $19,000, which I would lose $7,350 on the spot for their faults and lies.

Dear WestsideAuto. Let's just put aside the broken wheel bolt. You sold this car by lying to me about the battery warranty. If you have told me you don't know about the battery or its warranty I wouldn't buy this car. All I'm asking is to compensate me $15,000 for the battery replacement or just refund me the total cost I paid for the car.

Amila has removed this comment a few times as he does not want the public to know the full story that the ball is in his court and we are waiting for him to send the report. So the public can know this was the previous post that was removed by Amila:” Dear Change. Org Followers, You are supporting a person who is not providing factual information on the situation with their vehicle. Amila is claiming that the battery is showing as depleted in a report when inspected by Melville Mitsubishi but is unwilling to give us any proof. Unfortunately as we are not the owners of the vehicle Melville Mitsubishi will not provide us the report and a such reliant on the report Amila claims to have but not provide. We also organised another booking for Amila to take to a Mitsubishi dealer to have another report done as we suspected never had an one. We also offered a loan vehicle but Amila refused both. We are asking Amila Udayanga Dodampe Gamage to do the right thing and send us the report from Melville Mitsubishi which states that they have carried out the full Hybrid Battery Test and the results show that the battery is below manufacture specifications. Once we have this report we will take the corrective action required to fix a problem if a problem exists. We are asking all the Change.Org followers to please help us get this report so we can proceed with assisting Amila. Petitions are a great tool for customers to provide feedback so that we as a business know where we can improve and where we’re getting it right. Petitions that contain factually incorrect and personal accusations do nothing except mislead consumers. We are not too sure what outcome Amila Udayanga Dodampe Gamage is hoping for by leaving such defamatory accusations.
