WEP/GPO, The fight to repeal Social Security Unfairness has Passed Congress
The Issue
H.R. 82 Passed!!!! Headed to the President for his Signature.
Social Security Fairness Act for the 118th Congress and the campaign to repeal WEP and GPO is coming down to its last few days in 2024. It must be done by December 20th, 2024 or the process of introducing new bills in the 119th Congress for years, 2025 and 2026 must be started over along with getting enough cosponsors for votes in the House and in the Senate to repeal WEP/GPO.
Windfall Elimination Provision was signed into law in 1983 and Government Pension Offset was signed into law in 1976, these two pieces of legislation reduces Social-Security benefits or some cases eliminates survivors benefits entirely. Should citizens that have a pension and paid into Social-Security have their benefits reduced if you were a police, fire, teacher or railroad worker along with other professions and some foreign citizens that did not pay into Social Security? While working or when retired, you then worked a job that paid into Social Security and if your earned 40 credits upon retiring, you would believe you would receive your total benefits as your Social Security earning has stated but when you apply for your benefits, then you learn your benefits will be reduced, unless you work 30 years paying into Social-Security.
Ask Congress to repeal Windfall Elimination Provision & Government Pension Offset that unfairly harm hardworking citizens.
Members of the House of Representatives serve two-year terms and are considered for re-election every even years. Members elected to The United States Senate serves a six-year term.
The Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82) passed the House with remarkable bipartisanship on November 12, 2024, receiving 327 yea votes, received in the Senate on November 19, 2024. The Senate has 62 cosponsors and needs 60 yea votes to pass, S-597 Social Security Fairness Act. Bill.

More than 2.5 million people dedicated to public service, including many educators, police, firefighters, nurses state and municipal workers, along with other workers have their Social Security benefits reduced—or lose them entirely—due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). The WEP reduces the Social Security benefits of people who work in jobs covered by Social Security and jobs NOT covered by Social Security over the course of their careers—for example, educators compelled to take part-time or summer jobs to make ends meet. The GPO reduces the Social Security spousal or survivor benefits of people who get a government pension (federal, state or local) but did not pay Social Security taxes themselves.
My story, I am a retired law enforcement officer from Washington DC Police Department for over 25 years, 20 years of that was in k9 and during that time I didn't pay into Social Security The 218 Agreement and I also worked before and after my time with MPDC Police where obtained 40 credits working jobs that pays into Social Security.
