Petition updateWEP/GPO, The fight to repeal Social Security Unfairness has Passed CongressH..R. 82 and Companion Bill S. 597 in the 118th Congress
SEAN LAGRANDMD, United States
Mar 9, 2023

The Social Security Fairness Act H.R. 82 for 2023, in the 118th Congress has 194 cosponsors as of 3/9/23, this time last year in the 117th Congress H.R. 82 had 91 cosponsors. That is terrific, last year we obtained 305 cosponsors over the 290 cosponsors. H.R. 82 was assigned to the Consensus Calendar where it must maintain 290 cosponsors for 25 Legislative days but was moved off the Consensus Calendar after a markup hearing was held. H.R. 82 because of this action and the time restraints H.R. 82 legislation was not voted on in the 117th Congress.

With everyone contacting their U.S. House Representatives also Representatives in other States and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 82 who have not and thanking their Representatives that have cosponsors, we are on our way of reaching 290 cosponsors with enough time to move H.R. 82 through the Congress for a vote hopefully.

The companion bill to H.R. 82 in the Senate is S. 597 Social Security Fairness Act, it was sponsored in the Senate on 3/1/23 and has 31 cosponsors as of 3/9/23.

The related bill in 2022, The 117th Congress, S.1302 Social Security Fairness Act had 42 cosponsors for the whole year.
S.597 needs 60 cosponsors to force a vote on the Senate floor. We are halfway there please reach out to your Senators in your State and in other States and ask them to cosponsor S. 597 who have not and thank those Senators who have cosponsored.

Because of Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset laws and being unable to draw my full Social Security benefits that I have rightfully earned, I have started this petition.
