The Ways and Means Committee markup resolution inquiry and Social Security legislation hearing on H.R. 82 Social Security Fairness Act on September 20th, I would like to summarize my thoughts on the markup hearing. 

The Ways and Means Committee Chair Richard Neal approved the motion to report H.R. 82 to the full House of Representatives without recommendation and without objection to staff authorize making technical and conforming changes to bill. This mean that H.R. 82 was removed from the fast track Consensus Calendar and no vote will take place this week, giving time for the Full House members to introduce amendments to this legislation for the rest of the 2022 Congress Session. This could possibly mean that no resolution is agreed to this year after the Full House members start introducing their own amendments to H.R. 82 and legislation will not make it out of the full House back to the Ways and Means Committee to eventually a vote on the House floor. 

At the hearing Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas filed an amendments to withdraw his legislation Equal Treatment of Public Servants Act (H.R. 5834).

I believe that this was done so that some or all of his proposed legislation in H.R. 5834 will be drafted onto H.R. 82.

We must work with Representative Abigail Spanberger of Virginia and Representatives of Louisiana, Mike Johnson and the rest of our 300 other cosponsors of H.R. 82 to continue to fully repeal Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset.
