H.R. 82, titled the “Social Security Fairness Act,” was introduced in the House of Representatives in January 2021. It aims to eliminate both the WEP and GPO. Since the bill was introduced last year, lawmakers have referred it to the Subcommittee on Social Security, but Congress hasn’t taken any further action.
A bill with the same title was introduced in the U.S. Senate, with senators Michael Bennet (D) and John Hickenlooper (D) as cosponsors. That bill, S. 1302, was referred to the Committee on Finance in April 2021, and Congress hasn’t taken any further action on the bill.
Any bill that is introduced on Social Security and retirement in the House of Representatives will be referred to the Ways and Means Committee and be sent to the Social Security Subcommittee.
Any bill that is introduced on Social Security and retirement in the Senate will be referred to the Senate Finance Committee and be sent to the Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy Subcommittee.

Congress hasn't taking any further action yet is a common theme, we have to target the members in the Subcommittees and continue targeting members in our individual states.
The US House Representatives members on the Ways and Means Committee would be responsible for moving HR 82 to the House floor but first it would go to the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security. Their are 11 members on the Social Security Subcommittee that are not cosponsors of HR 82. Including John Larsen who sponsored HR 5723 Social Security 2100 A Sacred Trust.
Please request that all 11 US House Representatives that are on the Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee that haven't cosponsors HR 82 Social Security Fairness cosponsor it.
The United States Senate Finance Committee is responsible for Social Security and Pension issues. The subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy must first pass bills onto the Senate Finance Committee for a vote before it reaches the Senate floor. Their are five members that are not cosponsors of S 1302 Social Security Fairness Act but are on the Subcommittee on Social Security.
Please request these Senators that are on the Subcommittee of Social-Security, Pensions and Family Policy that aren't cosponsor of S1302 cosponsor it.
