Dear Friend of Singlers Marsh,
It’s now over five years since we applied to register Singlers Marsh as an official Village Green. If successful, this will secure the land in its current form for public use, for generations to come. This haven of parkland, natural environment and open space would be safe from development, whether imminent or far off.
The application has proceeded in fits and starts over the past five years. At various times, the community has shown its generous support by signing petitions, answering questionnaires, and even donating money towards our legal costs. We’ve used events such as the annual Fun Day to meet local residents and explain what’s happening, but we know that the wider community would like to know what’s happening.
To that end, we are holding a Public Meeting next Wednesday, 30th April, starting at 7.30pm in the Civic Centre in Welwyn. This will be an opportunity to find out about what becoming a Village Green would mean in practice, where we are in the application process, and what we’re up against. Our campaign team will be there to take your questions. We’ll also look to cover related topics about Singlers Marsh, such as why it has flooded so much this winter and whether anything can be done about this.
This meeting is open to everyone who wants to find out what’s going on with Singlers Marsh. Please come along, and feel free to ask questions. We will also have a range of displays to show lots of background information.
Finally, this message is being sent out on several mailing lists that have been created over the past five years. As a result, you may receive it more than once. We apologise if this is the case.
We hope to see you next Wednesday.
Warm regards,
Russell Haggar & David Cheek
