#SaveSwanseaSound - Due to close September 2020

For almost 50 years, Swansea Sound has been part of life across South West Wales, a local radio station the population has grown up with, and hold dear to their hearts.
Launched in September 1974, it was Wales' first local commercial radio station and quickly became a firm favourite among local people. It broke the mould in many ways with 20/20 news bulletins and it involved and focused upon the people living within its transmission area. Not only a radio station but also a friend offering vital services during snow storms and appeals, and bringing people together during the good times and the bad.
Having been a huge part of the cultural and social fabric of Swansea for almost five decades, the station now faces closure with a re-branding resulting in its local identity being lost forever. It will be replaced and renamed in favour of a regional radio station covering Swansea and Cardiff.
Swansea and its surrounding area is already served by regionally networked stations Heart, Nation & Dragon Radio, the latter already playing greatest hits and who offer very little in the way of locally focused content.
This change will also further diminish the already poorly served populations of Wales when it comes to media coverage, with profit being placed above listener loyalty. Surely listeners in Wales should have the same rights and access to local radio services as is the case with BBC Local Radio in England.
Swansea Sound has always been there. It's part of Swansea's history. Let's not allow it to disappear in the same way as the Swansea/Mumbles tram, Oystermouth's Slip Bridge and The Vetch Field.
