For the local authorities to see type 1 diabities as a legitimate life changing disability
The Issue
In a lot of schools their are children with disabilities type 1 being the most under looked & cared for regarding local funding, I am one of a number of mum's & dad's of type 1 diabetic children who cannot get the help needed for their child in a school setting. In schools their are a high number of children to teachers this is a big issue especially when handed the task of looking after a type 1 diabetic regardless of them being on a pump or injection, they have to be closely monitored which cant be done to the level of that of the parent/care giver as they have numerous other children's needs to fill. I'm asking that our government put back into schools funding for extra help (teachers/TA's) so that type 1 kids can get that extra care (normality) while in school which is vital for their safety & to see type 1 diabetics as an actual disability it is a crippling disease which is so hard to control & only those who have it & those who care for them know the hardship's they have to go through everyday of their lives not to mention the complications of such a disease (loss of eye sight, nerve damage to name a few) its a disease that cannot be cured & that doesn't predujuice against age, race or colour anyone at any point in their lives can get it even very young children. Those in power should think what if that was their child having to go through the struggle & what things they could have done to help them & those like them. My son is up through the nite numerous times crying out as his bloods are either too high or on a low, he goes to school where I get called three times a day as their isn't any funding for extra help to care for him like so many others he hasn't got that of a normal school life as if he has high ketones he is unable to attend school as he has to be tested every two hours nite & day & depending on that I have to inject. Its a never ending cycle & that is only a short insight to how a type 1's life is their's also the regular trips back & for hospitals when their not well not to mention constant appointments to try to mange bloods, on the phone sorting out prescriptions & diabetic orders & their is no such thing as a good nite sleep for either the type 1 or that of their parent's/carers it's a daily struggle people in power don't see or choose to ignore which is why I am asking for your support to share & join the cause to help give our children better support in schools & for type1 diabities to be recognised as a legitimate disability as their are so many in a position of power who don't.
