Wellington City Council should recycle plastic bags

Wellington City Council should recycle plastic bags
The issue
Dear Wellingtonians,
Nowadays our households usually contain plastic bags full of plastic bags. Although this maybe helpful for reusing them, when deciding to recycle them we are told that plastic bags are not recyclable. It is now a daily problem with littering of rubbish in Wellington communities and plastic bags happen to be part of the litter. Plastic bags like bread bags, nappies bags and food rappers, should be recycled by the Wellington City council. Earlier this year on April 22nd the Wellington City Council revealed that it has not been recycling bags since 2011, and all of our plastic bags we chuck in with our recycling still get thrown into the landfills!
It is also said that the plastic bags are the biggest problems at the landfills!
I believe if we take this petition to the Wellington City Council we maybe able to show a high demand/wanting of a way to recycle plastic bags or at least produce more cheaper alternatives; reusable bags, handed freely/sent out to house holds around the city.
If we win and get the local council to change the recycling systems (to include plastic bags in there recycling waste) this will not only mean we have become one step closer to becoming a cleaner, greener little capital, but environmentally we can know that these bags a being reused and not put into landfills; which produce a lot methane over a few years. If we lose we will not give up. In smaller communities we can have more community cleanup events, find out other ways to reduce the amount of bags we collect, how to reuse them.
