We Withhold: Demand Bodily Autonomy and Emergency Care for Women in the U.S.

The Issue

Women are being forced to live in a country that treats our bodies like battlegrounds. We're not protected - we're punished.

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, reproductive freedom has been stripped away in many states - but this goes far beyond abortion. Hospitals are now legally allowed to delay or deny life-saving care to pregnant patients, even in medical emergencies.

These emergencies include things like:

  • Ectopic pregnancies (where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus and can rupture and kill the patient if untreated)
  • Incomplete miscarriages (where fetal tissue remains and causes infection or hemorrhage)
  • Preterm premature rupture of membranes (where a woman’s water breaks too early and infection sets in)

Doctors in many states now hesitate to provide care - even when they know exactly what needs to be done - because they fear legal consequences. Patients are being told to wait until they are crashing or actively dying before anything can be done.

The result? Women being forced to carry dead or dying fetuses, to suffer life-threatening infections, to live in pain and fear - and in some cases, to die preventable deaths.

This is not a debate. This is a crisis.

What’s at stake is not just our right to choose - it’s our right to survive.

Women are being treated as incubators rather than people. Medical decisions are no longer being made by patients and doctors, but by politicians and state lawmakers. In some cases, families have been denied the right to remove a woman from life support because her body was being used to sustain a non-viable pregnancy. These are not theoretical risks - they are happening now in places like Texas, Idaho, and Georgia.

If we do nothing, we are endorsing a system that sacrifices women’s lives in the name of control. That punishes pregnancy. That criminalizes care.

We Withhold is a growing movement of people refusing to accept this reality - and this petition is just the beginning. We are demanding immediate federal action to protect emergency reproductive care, bodily autonomy, and the right to survive pregnancy in this country.

But our refusal does not stop there.

Our bodies are not the only thing this country exploits. It thrives on our labor. Our spending. Our silence. We Withhold is not only a demand for care - it’s a declaration of boundaries. We are choosing to withdraw everything we have been expected to give: our ability to create life, our emotional and physical labor, our consumer participation, our compliance.

This is a peaceful, powerful strike - and every signature adds pressure to a system that has treated our lives as disposable.

Add your name to this petition.
Whether you’re a woman, a womb-holder, or an ally - your voice matters. Signing this petition means you believe that no one should be forced to give birth under oppression. That women deserve safe, timely, life-saving care - not silence, not delay, and certainly not death.

We are done waiting. We are done dying. We will not create life in a country that refuses to protect ours.

Stand with us. Speak loudly. Refuse to look away.
We withhold.
