The Issue

Dear Sir,

We are writing to bring to your attention the recent widening of footpaths on Andheri-Kurla Road in Andheri East. While the new footpaths have greatly improved the infrastructure and accessibility of the area, we believe that incorporating greenery along the road would enhance the environment and provide numerous benefits to the community.

We kindly request the BMC to:

  1. Consider planting indigenous trees along these newly constructed footpaths by creating tree basins for them.
  2. If tree guards are required, use eco-friendly materials such as bamboo tree guards.
  3. Cover the trees basins with a porous material, such as 'Resin-Bound Permeable Paving' used by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in Hyderabad.

This initiative would not only contribute to the beautification of the area but also offer several environmental benefits, such as improved air quality, shade, and a reduction in the urban heat island effect.

Planting trees in urban areas has been proven to promote better health and well-being for residents, foster a sense of community, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the locality. Additionally, trees help in reducing noise pollution and can serve as habitats for urban wildlife.

We trust that the BMC shares the commitment to creating a greener and more sustainable Mumbai. We hope you will consider this request favorably and take the necessary steps to implement this green initiative on Andheri-Kurla road.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to a positive response and the continued development of our city.

Yours faithfully,

Residents of Andheri East
