We the people and businesses of Heanor demand that OUR Town Council adopts the People’s Plan for Heanor Town Centre. The People's Plan has been created by local residents and businesses to make the town centre cleaner, safer and better for everyone.

 
We’ve waited for too long for (no) action by our Town Council. The current town council has been elected for four years and will spend £1,000,000 (one million pounds) of our money that we pay through Council Tax.

We want this money spend wisely and where it will make the greatest impact.  

The People’s Plan is simple, straightforward and is within the council’s powers, budgets and resources.

Heanor Town Centre has been in decline for decades. The town has got worse year after year. It’s possible to say: “the banks have closed and gone online, the shops can’t compete with Amazon, it’s an old market town, all towns are suffering, what do you expect?”. Instead we should all be asking: “How does Heanor compare to other towns? What are other towns doing differently to Heanor? Why is Belper thriving when Heanor is such a dump?”.

Did you know that Belper used to be as bad as Heanor is today but is now where a lot of local people choose to shop and spend their leisure time? Across the country, towns like ours are turning themselves around. These towns are those with creative, innovative and forward looking town councils. All of this is a polite version of how many people describe the state of Heanor and how it is being managed.  

Who can blame people when you only have to look around to see the depressing looking facades of empty shops, the battered buildings, HMO’s where the banks used to be, dirty and tired buildings and streets and frequent anti-social behaviour? It’s time for the town council to really listen to the people that pay for it. It’s time for the People’s Plan for Heanor Town Centre!
