The campaign to see the Sbarro bomber extradited from Jordan to face trial on terrorism charges is about justice thwarted and evil rewarded.
Ahlam Tamimi, in the words of a major US news network, is the world's most wanted fugitive terrorist. Yet she lives free in Jordan, where she was born, and is protected by the Hashemite Kingdom despite the key role she played - and openly admits for the record - in the 2001 massacre at a Jerusalem pizzeria.
And also despite the 1995 US/Jordan extradition treaty that Jordan has demeaned and trampled since the US first presented its formal request to the Jordanian authorities to hand her over for trial.
My wife Frimet and I have fought media obstruction, the double-talk of principle-challenged politicians and the appalling willingness of Jordan - a US ally receiving billions of US dollars in aid each year - to stand in solidarity with a Hamas jihadist who seems never to miss an opportunity to trumpet via the Arabic news industry and the world's major social media platforms her pleasure and pride at the murders her bombing produced.
Our battle continues. In recent months, we have obtained revealing documents from the US government via a law suit we brought against the State Department; those papers conclusively undermine and contradict Jordan's claims the 1995 treaty is invalid.
Meanwhile, the US, in a strangely quiet voice, continues to assert that the treaty is valid and in effect - while continuing to treat Jordan and its ruler as an honored friend and respected ally. And our efforts to engage with senior US political leadership continue to be deflected.
We have gotten several thousand more signatures on our petition since my last update. These encourage us and, step by step, enable us to speak with a louder voice.
Ours is a fight for powerful principles. First and most importantly, that justice must be done even when this makes politicians and government officials uncomfortable. But also that the news industry has to be held to account when it buries an important narrative like the Tamimi/Jordan scandal, concealing the details and in effect providing cover for the FBI Most Wanted Fugitive terrorist who is at the heart of this effort.
But it's also a very personal fight by parents still reeling years later from the murder of a much loved child, and from the cold-blooded decisions by powerful individuals in the media, in communal leadership and in government who in effect say, yes, these innocents were murdered and yes, this is sad and so on, but really politics and strategic relations are too important for us to allow the killing of this or that child to affect the important work we do.
Today, November 27, is Malki's birthday. The life she should have lived will never be returned to us. But we want that cruel loss to be known and felt.
With your help, and thanks to you signing our petition, we intend to keep fighting until Ahlam Tamimi has finally been extradited to face trial in Washington. If you can help us get more signatures, we will be deeply grateful.
