We The People, Why Are We Invisible in US-Iran Negotiations?
The Issue
We, the Iranian diaspora worldwide, urgently appeal to the United States government: Do not sign any deal with the Islamic Republic regime without protecting millions of us who openly opposed it.
Since the major protests in Iran and global solidarity actions, countless Iranians abroad participated bravely and openly — attending rallies, speaking out on social media, and using our real names and faces. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and regime intelligence have identified us through surveillance, photos, videos, and online monitoring. Many now face arrest, torture, or worse if we attempt to return to Iran to visit our families. engelsbergideas.com
Yet in the current US-Iran negotiations and proposed deals — focused on the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, nuclear issues, and ending hostilities — the Iranian people abroad are nowhere to be mentioned. There is zero discussion of our safety, no provisions for our right to family unity, and no guarantees against regime retaliation.
Where is our future immunity? Where are the concrete protections allowing identified activists to safely visit aging parents, siblings, children, and relatives inside Iran?
If a deal normalizes relations or eases pressure on the regime without these safeguards:
• Millions of Iranian expatriates will remain permanently separated from their families for as long as the regime stays in power.
• This forced exile will trigger a massive wave of depression, mental health crises, and generational trauma across the global Iranian community.
• Families inside Iran will lose their loved ones abroad, compounding the suffering from years of protests and repression.
We are not asking the United States to abandon diplomacy. We are demanding that America — as a champion of human rights — makes diaspora protections a non-negotiable part of any agreement. This must include:
• Explicit guarantees of safe return and family visits for those who exercised their right to peaceful protest and free speech.
• Pressure on the regime to cease monitoring, harassing, and punishing exiles and their families.
• Inclusion of Iranian diaspora voices in the negotiation process.
• Clear, enforceable consequences if the regime retaliates against identified activists.
The Iranian people showed extraordinary courage during the protests. The diaspora amplified their voices at great personal risk. Ignoring us in these deals would betray that sacrifice and reward the regime’s repression.
Sign this petition to demand that President Trump, the State Department, and Congress prioritize human rights and family unity. No deal without safeguards for the Iranian diaspora!
