The Issue

We, the families of Zeta Bronx Tremont Park Lower Elementary who walk with our children every day, are asking the NYPD and City leaders to take immediate action to make the intersection of Arthur Avenue and East Tremont Avenue safe during school arrival and dismissal.

Every school day, our children—from four years old to nine years old—cross one of the busiest and most dangerous intersections in our neighborhood to get to school.

We see it every day:

Cars speed to beat the light.

Drivers make unsafe turns while kids are crossing.

Buses, cars, and delivery vehicles push through blocked crosswalks.

Arthur Avenue feeds I-95, bringing constant heavy traffic through this intersection.
We have had near-misses, frightening moments that no parent should ever have to face while walking their child to school.

Families and school leaders have asked for help for more than two years. Nothing has changed.

We do not want to wait until something tragic happens before action is taken.

WHAT WE ARE ASKING FOR:

We respectfully but urgently request that the NYPD assign a dedicated traffic officer at Arthur Avenue and East Tremont Avenue during school arrival and dismissal hours—every school day—so our children can cross safely.

Traffic officers are assigned at busy school crossings across New York City. Our children deserve the same protection.

We the undersigned stand together as Bronx families demanding immediate NYPD traffic staffing at this dangerous intersection.

Our children’s safety cannot wait.
