Ban Plastic, Save Our Dear Animals

The Issue

Every other day, we hear about the ban of plastic bags in so and so cities, but how many of them are implemented honestly? The ban doesn't remain in action for more than a week most of the times.

Plastic bags are used and then thrown on public roads, and in a country like India, all the waste is then transported to an open place where stray animals like cows and dogs come to seek food. I myself have seen a lot of animals taking the plastic bags inside, a lot of plastic, because when they don't get anything else it remains as the only alternative to eat. Who knows how many of them die because of plastic-poisoning?! Who really cares?

India generates around 26,000 tonnes of plastic waste everyday, and a very large proportion of it is given away in rivers, which in turn goes into the sea. Many marine animals cannot figure out the difference between plastic and their prey, as plastic is manufactured in countless number of shapes and colors. There have instances been found where animals like turtles and fish died after consuming plastic. And here again, countless number of innocent animals die because of it.

To tackle this, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change must implement these solutions:

  1. Ban on all the companies which manufacture plastic bags, people will keep on buying them until they're in market.
  2. Abolishment of all the open garbage spaces, so that the animals don't get poisoned from it.
  3. To treat animals as citizens, so that a legal action can be taken against those who harm them.
  4. Help local and poor vendors so that they can afford paper bags.

I've asked for help from the Indian Government Ministry and Prakash Javadekar, as both of them control all the problems related to environment, and have the power to implement the ban on a larger scale. This petition is important because if we won this, then it will help to create a better world not only for humans, but also for those who share this beautiful planet with us. A cleaner and a far more sustainable one.

We demand action of India's present and future leaders on environmental concerns. The new generation of voters shall cast their votes only for the parties engaged in bringing Climate Justice and Animal Rights.

I am Amandeep Luthra, a High School Graduate, and I care about this petition because animals are not things. They too can feel, breath and think like us. If we humans have taken their homes by building our colonies around them, then it becomes our responsibility to keep them safe. To keep them healthy. To provide them equal rights as ours. We shouldn't let them die because of a problem we have created. Animals are my friends and I cannot see them suffering.
