WE REFUSE TO DIE FOR OIL — Stop the Drilling, Save Jamaica

The Issue

We, the undersigned nationals of Jamaica and the Caribbean, declare a national emergency of conscience.

On June 17, 2025, the Government of Jamaica signed an offshore oil drilling permit — giving foreign oil company United Oil & Gas permission to drill near Jamaica’s southeast coast.

But this permit was signed without public education, national emergency planning, or geological disaster transparency.

Jamaica sits on dangerous fault lines, and oil drilling near Morant Point increases the risk of:

Man-made earthquakes
Underwater landslides
Tsunamis across Jamaica and the Caribbean
Hospital collapse, injury spikes, and mass panic
Poisoned fishing waters, marine death, and irreversible damage

We cannot afford to die quietly while governments sell our land and future for foreign oil profits.

The Earth is already unstable. The Southern Ocean current is reversing. Global pressure systems are shifting. And Jamaica — a sacred island — is now a testing ground for disaster.

We call on the Government of Jamaica, the Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, the Office of the Prime Minister, and United Oil & Gas to:

  1.  Immediately halt offshore oil drilling operations
  2. Release public environmental and geological safety reports
  3. Hold national hearings with independent experts and civil society
  4. Respect the right of the people to choose LIFE over oil

This is not a political campaign. This is a survival movement. We refuse to die for oil. We choose life. We choose truth. We choose a safe future for Jamaica and her people.
