LGBTQ+ Inclusive Education in TRSchools

The Issue

Hello! My name is Jaison and I'm a sophomore (soon to be junior) at Toms River High School North.

As a student who is part of the LGBTQ+ community and is rather obvious about that fact, I have been called many things in the hallway and have heard many things said in classes that shouldn't be said...and I think you get what I'm saying if you've ever been in a high school or really any environment where there's a lot of emotions and typically uneducated people.

I'm making this petition in hopes of stopping that; by educating students and even teachers. For starters, we could have text books with LGBTQ+ history being included, sex ed could include safe sex for LGBTQ+ people. Furthermore, we should take calling people certain slurs more seriously. Whether your a teacher who hears it or even a faculty member, it would be wonderful to have someone step in. As an LGBTQ+ student, almost nothing compares to the feeling of a teacher telling a straight/cis student not to say the f-slur or any other slur against the LGBTQ+ community. It makes me personally feel more heard and safer in my class.

Signing this petition makes it more likely that people in our school's faculty will hear us and understand what we're going through. Thank you!
