We Need Speed Bumps/“Humps” on Alameda Point - Barbers Point Road and Corpus Christi Road

The Issue

WE HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE…OR NOTHING GETS DONE! SPREAD THE WORD— SHARE THIS WEB-LINK!

I am a resident of Alameda Point/Alameda, CA.

And I am one of many frustrated, concerned and annoyed residents here seeking support on this initiative. I am tired as well as my neighbors from all the unsafe speeding behaviors on our residential streets. We noticed Orion Street received their speed bumps from Pandemic Relief Funds in 2021/2022 but how did we get excluded? Now they are speed racing more on Barbers Point Road!!!

We dont even have dedicated sidewalks! Cars and motorcycles and cyclists ride/drive over the speed limit causing tremendous amount of safety concerns for our families and pets to even walk outside!

Two years ago, my parked vehicle was one among 3 to 4 others that was hit by a drunk driver. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident but part of an increasing trend of accidents occurring in our neighborhood on Alameda Point - Barbers Point Road and Corpus Christi Road.

RIDE ZUM Transportation Inc. is also one of many speeding vehicles/vans/buses in our zone! And theres no place on their website to report speeding behavior!!! They are transporting our children/students to school and back!!!

Here is another reference of a recent incident of minors (they were let go) in front of our Town Homes that was reported to Alameda Police Department on March 26th, 2024– copy and paste the following link or click into it to see the notes and passive response by Public Works administrator…

The absence of speed bumps or any other traffic calming measures has led to increased speed behavior which is making our streets unsafe. The National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) states that speed humps are proven to reduce vehicular speeds and improve safety conditions for both pedestrians and motorists.

Our community deserves safe streets where we can walk without fear and park our vehicles as normal and securely. We need the city council's immediate attention towards implementing speed bumps on these roads as a measure to control speeding vehicles thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

Let's work together for safer neighborhoods in Alameda Point - Alameda, Ca. 94501!

Please sign this petition along with your children who go to schools near here like Ruby Bridges and Encinal High School. And feel free to share your story and concerns in the comments section! We all have to vocalize our frustrations, concerns and experiences of all the speeding on our residential area!

We are urging the Alameda City Council to implement necessary traffic calming measures on Alameda Point - Barbers Point Road and Corpus Christi Road immediately.

If anyone signing this petition would like to speak at a City Hall Meeting to highlight what we are asking for COMMENT below!!!
