Hello Supporters,

In the run up to the next Park Board Meeting on March 31st, and the Vancouver City Council By-election on April 5th, the 2 ABC Party by-election candidates issued a press release yesterday saying they support building a 50m pool in South Vancouver.

While any addition of a 50m pool in Vancouver is a big plus and would be very much appreciated, this pledged pool would have to be included in the 2027-2030 Capital Plan, a new plebiscite held in 2026, and likely shovels in the ground towards the end of 2030. With a 4-5 year construction period, we could possibly see the pool by 2035!

We need to persevere with our call for a 50m pool as voted on in the 2022 Plebiscite.

This Petition, in addition to calling for a 50m pool, asks to preserve the existing capacity during the construction.

The Park Board is aware of a temporary (could be made permanent) 50m pool option that would cost a small fraction (estimated at CAD30m) of the VAC rebuild budget and could be built in a fraction of the time (15 months).

We need to push for the construction of an alternative facility that would be open during the construction of the new pool so that all current VAC users are not either left out in the cold or squeezed into Hillcrest, which by the Park Board’s own calculations is already operating at 113% capacity.

What can you do?

·        Please attend the meeting and sign up to speak (link here: https://parkboardmeetings.vancouver.ca/2025/20250331/index.htm )

·        Ask everyone you meet to sign this petition – pushing the signatures up to over 15,000 before March 31st will require everyone to work on this!

·        Make this a City Council By-election issue. Talk to the candidates and ask them to commit to this cause.

Thank you!
