We Must Stand Against Gender Apartheid – A Call to Defend Women’s Rights
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call upon the public, our policymakers, and international allies to take a firm stand against the systematic gender apartheid enforced by the Islamic Republic of Iran—a repression that has now spread beyond its borders and across the Shia Crescent. The findings of We Believe In Israel’s recent report, The Systematic Oppression of Women by the Islamic Republic of Iran and Its Influence Across the Shia Crescent and Beyond, reveal a disturbing reality: Iran’s theocratic regime has weaponised women’s rights as a means to instil fear, marginalise, and control. This scourge now reaches into communities and regions under the influence of Tehran's proxies, leaving a trail of silenced and subjugated women in its wake.
Iran’s regime’s policies constitute an institutionalised gender apartheid, one that has seen women deprived of the most basic freedoms—freedom of movement, freedom to work, freedom over their own lives and choices. These are not mere restrictions; they are active oppressions, enforced with the full might of a regime that will go to any lengths to hold women in subjugation. The scope of this cruelty does not stop at Iran’s borders but permeates territories controlled by Iran’s proxies: Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, and the Houthis in Yemen, where the oppression of women is not merely tolerated but brutally enforced.
The world cannot look the other way. We have a duty—morally, politically, and as a nation that holds freedom dear—to stand in unequivocal solidarity with those who live under this brand of tyranny. We cannot allow the Islamic Republic’s policies to be dismissed as mere “cultural differences.” Gender equality, personal autonomy, and freedom from persecution are universal values. And it is time we made that plain.
By signing this petition, you are urging Britain to:
Defend Women’s Rights as Non-Negotiable – Uphold the principle that gender equality transcends all borders and reject any justification for oppression disguised as “cultural norms.”
Condemn the Systematic Repression by the Islamic Republic and Its Proxies – Hold to account those responsible for enforcing policies that target and diminish the lives of women, both in Iran and in territories influenced by Tehran’s ideology.
Press Western Government to Lead by Example – Call upon Western capitals to take a public and unwavering stand against Iran’s brutal gender apartheid, using every avenue of policy and diplomacy to advocate for women’s freedoms globally.
Educate the Public on These Atrocities – Commit to raising awareness of the plight faced by women in Iran and beyond, and urge all to stand in solidarity with those forced into silence.
This is a call to action for every individual who values freedom, dignity, and the equal rights of all people. The West’s legacy in defending human rights must not falter now; we must stand up, and we must stand firm.
We cannot let the oppression of women under the Islamic Republic and its allies go unchallenged. Sign the petition. Demand justice. Stand resolute for freedom, for human dignity, and for women everywhere.
