The Issue

We Have the Power… Right?!!

That was the message back in the '80s when we were kids - and it still matters today. So why are we letting Mattel, a billion-dollar company, exploit one of their most loyal fandoms?

Update

They're asking us to pay $300 for the new MOTU Origins Snake Lair playset - a crowdfunded product that costs more than all three previous Origins playsets combined. That’s not just steep. It’s offensive. What is worse is that collectors outside of the USA are being charged an even higher price. For example, in Australia the direct currency equivalent is $AUD463 but instead we are being charged $AUD620!!!

We need to say: Enough.

Please reach out to fellow collectors and ask them not to support this crowdfund - even if they can afford it. We already set a dangerous precedent when we funded Eternia. We were desperate for that Holy Grail, and Mattel knew it.

But the Snake Lair is different. Yes, it’s a beautifully designed playset. Yes, it deserves credit for its features. But this is marketing psychology, not fan service.

Mattel is using a crowdfund to artificially hype demand and justify a sky-high price tag for something that likely costs a fraction of that to produce.

We get it: businesses need to make a profit. But expecting adult collectors to shell out $300 for molded plastic wrapped in nostalgia? That’s insulting. We're not kids anymore - we see the game. And we can vote with our wallets.

Ask yourself:

• Does the Snake Lair really need to be crowdfunded?

• Do we need “bonus” tiers for figures that might never be unlocked - or worse, never delivered?

• Why doesn’t Mattel just release the set (with all proposed figures) at a fair, reasonable price?

So let’s speak up. Loud and clear.

We do have the power. Let's show them.

Sign the petition. Don’t fund the Snake Lair.
