In previous elections, candidates have made up “facts” on the fly, tell half-truths, or just plain lied on the debate stages. What this does is cause confusion for both the candidate supporters and many voters in general. Once the debate is over, most voters don’t go back or even have the time to go back and check what they just heard in the debate. Many voters tend to take everything they heard in the debate as gospel and act accordingly.

In this day and age, we can do better, much better, but only if the bodies that set the rules get involved. We want the 2020 Presidential Election to be the first election year that’s fact-checked in real-time, we should no longer allow politicians to get away with lies, half-truths or uncorroborated facts. We are already getting fact-checking hours after the debates right now, why can’t we do it right there and then?
