Dear Friends and Supporters of the NAR Accountability Project -
For all those who wonder if activism really works, the news of this past week confirms that yes it most certainly does.
I'm pleased to let you know that 2 of our 4 reforms as listed on the petition you signed have been adopted by the National Association of Realtors (NAR). This is a major development in our effort to bring change to NAR. They have instituted a third-party HR reporting system and hired outside counsel to conduct a sweeping internal investigation.
Thanks to you, we had an incredibly successful Day of Action on Monday. I spent the day in Chicago where we held a press conference outside NAR's headquarters. I stood with Illionis State Rep. Kelly Cassidy and Sharmili Majmudar of Women Employed. Just before the press conference, we learned that NAR lost its designation as a "Great Place to Work." Later in the day, the staff sent a letter to NAR leadership demanding their resignations. As the week went on, our movement grew exponentially. After over ten years of pleading with NAR to help oust a notorious sexual harasser in their own state, heroic members of the West Virginia Realtors Association created their own online petition demanding his removal and are finally getting attention on their cause.
What started as an effort have morphed into a movement.
We will continue pushing for reforms until all our proposals are adopted. Most urgently, the time has come for NAR to release women from their non-trade secret NDA's. The time for silence is over.
I know you've done a lot, but I ask that you continue to help us by spreading the word. Please share this petition today with 5 friends, share it on social media, and ask others to sign. As a reminder you can sign this petition anonymously. You can also promote the petition anonymously via a paid ad on change.org.
We need your help as we enter into the next, critical phase of our movement. Sign up on our website here to get all the latest news. Thanks to you, we've come a long way, further than anyone thought possible. But now, let's finish the job!
