The Issue

Key points -

• One exam, one chance = one year lost.

• Second attempt means fair opportunity.

• JEE is twice a year — NEET should be too.

• Reduces stress and anxiety among students.

Every year, lakhs of aspirants prepare for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a single examination that determines the medical careers of countless students across India. While the competition is tough, the real challenge lies in the fact that NEET is conducted only once a year.

For a single-day exam to decide the future of so many students is unfair and stressful. A student who has prepared for months or even years may lose their chance due to unavoidable reasons such as sudden illness, technical issues, exam-day anxiety, or travel disruptions. Unlike other competitive exams like JEE (Main), which is conducted twice a year, NEET does not currently provide aspirants with this crucial second chance.

Background & Need for Reform -

NEET is a highly competitive and crucial examination that determines the future of lakhs of medical aspirants every year. However, conducting it only once annually puts immense pressure on students, especially considering:

• The high stakes of a single attempt.

• Mental health issues due to performance anxiety.

• Personal or medical emergencies that may occur on or before the exam date.

• Unequal chances due to lack of second opportunity unlike in JEE Main.

• Occurance of unexpected emergencies like flood, cyclone, heavy ran, power outage or even biometric delays.

Why NEET Twice a Year?

1. Reduces stress and performance anxiety : Multiple attempts reduce exam-day stress, allowing students to perform to their full potential.

2. Unexpected circumstances : Heavy rainfall, floods, cyclones, electricity outage or even biometric delay can create chaos amongst students.

3. Fair Opportunity : Students who face unforeseen issues (illness, family emergencies, etc.) will get a second chance.

4. Improved Preparation Strategy : Students can learn from their first attempt and improve in the second.

5. Fewer court cases and re-exam demands : No delay in results and counsellings.

6. Increased credibility and trust : Increased trust in organising body from both parents' and students' side.

7. Already Implemented for JEE Main : NEET being equally competitive,  deserves the same structure as JEE.

Our Demands -

We respectfully urge the Ministry of Education and NTA to:

• Conduct NEET twice a year, preferably once in March/April and again in May/

June.

• Allow the best of the two scores to be considered for admissions (like in JEE Main).

• Make appropriate changes in the academic calendar to accommodate this reform smoothly.

• This small change can have a huge impact on the lives of lakhs of medical aspirants across the country, ensuring fairness, reducing anxiety, and fostering a healthier academic environment.

Why Public Support is Important ?

Public support is the backbone of this petition. A change of this scale—conducting NEET twice a year—can only happen if the voices of lakhs of students and parents are heard loud and clear by the authorities.

1. Collective strength: One student alone cannot influence policy, but thousands of signatures together send a powerful message to the government.

2. Accountability: When the Ministry of Education and NTA see that this demand is backed by strong public support, they will be more likely to take it seriously.

3. Representation: Many students preparing for NEET are under stress and cannot raise their voices individually. Public support ensures their concerns are amplified.

4. Media and policymakers listen to numbers: A large number of signatures will help this issue gain attention in the media and make it harder for authorities to ignore.

5. Shaping the future: Supporting this petition is not just for current aspirants but for future generations of students, who deserve a fairer, less stressful exam system.

When we come together, our demand for “NEET twice a year” will transform from a request into a movement that the government cannot overlook.

This is not just about an exam—it is about fairness, mental health, and the future of lakhs of students. By conducting NEET twice a year, the government can reduce unnecessary pressure, give every aspirant a fair chance, and create a more student-friendly education system.

We urge the authorities to act now and bring this change. Every signature matters—your support can turn this demand into reality. Together, let’s make NEET twice a year and give our future doctors the opportunity they truly deserve.
