18 July 2018 — UPDATE: Nearly 1,000 petitioners are -again- calling on the government to widen an inquiry into decades of child abuse. Those signing petition from this informal group, ECNZA, the End New Zealand Child Abuse information campaign, remain on record as opposing a limited inquiry, restricted to historic, state-only cases. On related social media networks, dozens have called for the head of the limited inquiry to stand down. Others have threatened to boycott the inquiry. Most potent legally, a potential court challenge from a survivor of child abuse outside government, over a failure to protect his human right to access the inquiry. That and a case before the United Nations Human Rights Commission over ECT, so-called Electric Convulsive Therapy, are large red flags among many waved at the inquiry. People challenging the limited inquiry into child abuse are also seeing separate controversy erupt around another inquiry, into mental health, with witnesses claiming an official ban from hearings. ECNZA petitioners say government must rethink, reset and review the Historical Abuse in State Care Royal Commission - starting with adding the word "child" to the official inquiry title. http://www.abuseinstatecare.royalcommission.govt.nz/ Petitioners are calling on all political parties to get back to facts, and reach common agreement towards a full inquiry into all child abuse, as widely called for. #childnzRC Photo: An attack outside any institution is fuelling anger - including from the police - after a man was jailed for near six years on child abuse charges. One officer was acid in his criticism of the New Zealand track record when it comes to youth. Detective Inspector Colin Higson, of Counties Manukau Police, was quoted by NewsHub as expressing disappointment 'that we keep having such horrific cases of child abuse.' "New Zealand punches above its weight in a lot things: in sport, in politics - we were the first country in the world to give women the vote." [There are] a lot of things New Zealand is outstanding at. We are also outstanding at hurting our children." More : https://www.facebook.com/groups/endNZchildabuse/ . . .
