The Issue

Imagine sending your newly adopted dog back to the wolves or the same abusive owner it escaped from. That gut-wrenching feeling is exactly why I, and so many others, are urgently calling for the protection of Haitian families seeking a safe and secure future in the United States. Right now, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for  law-abiding Haitians is at risk, threatening to send them back to a nation struggling under the weight of political turmoil, economic instability, and grave humanitarian challenges.

Haiti, once known as the "Pearl of the Antilles," has faced significant hardship in recent years – from devastating natural disasters like the 2010 earthquake and the more recent 2021 earthquake, to ongoing governmental corruption and healthcare crises. According to the World Bank, over 60% of the population lives below the national poverty line, making survival a daily battle. Amidst these hardships, sending Haitians back isn't just impractical; it's inhumane.

By restoring TPS and crafting a clear, lawful immigration path, we can ensure that these families live with dignity and contribute positively to our society. The U.S. has long been a beacon of hope for those seeking refuge. Allowing TPS recipients a path to permanent residency doesn't just benefit the individuals but enriches our communities, our workforce, and our cultural tapestry.

The American Immigration Council reports that immigrants, including those with TPS, are integral to our economy, filling vital roles in sectors from healthcare to education, supporting industries that are foundational to our daily lives. Furthermore, children born to TPS recipients, who are American citizens by birth, deserve the right to grow up in a stable environment, without the fear of their families being torn apart.

Let's reach out to Congress and ask the Trump Administration to act decisively. The solution is clear: extend TPS for Haitian nationals and/or build a streamlined and just path to citizenship. Please show compassion. Stand for justice by signing this petition. Together, we have the power to protect families and communities from unthinkable hardship.
