We have learned of some intriguing news. Our village president Chris Zellner, who plays a key role in the approvals of commercial and residential projects, land use, and zoning/ordinances in Waunakee, has accepted a job at a bank in town that finances many projects and properties here. Watch the village board and plan commission agendas carefully. Chris will need to recuse himself a lot to avoid conflicts of interest. If he doesn't, it is important for residents to bring it to light by contacting board members, attending meetings, or writing letters in the paper. Frequent recusals from decisions and discussion can make it a challenge to serve in an elected leadership role effectively and fully. It may be time for a resignation to occur in order to place an individual in the village president role that does not have nearly as many or any conflicts of interest.
