Keep Northern Dane County RuralWI, United States
6 mag 2018
Greetings petition signers, We wanted to share a more detailed reason as to why we do not support the Tierney annexation. The annexation of the parcels between First Presbyterian Church and Winn Funeral Home could be approved at tomorrow (Monday) evening's Village Board meeting (6:00 pm; Village Hall). First of all, this is valuable farmland. Plano soil (the type of soil found at the site) is some of the most fertile soil out there, and Wisconsin, mostly due to terrain, has very little of it. The Plano soil that remains, mostly in northern Dane County, continues to be rapidly lost to development in the Waunakee area. Secondly, we have plenty of lots available in town, Westport, and in the school district. Kilkenny has at least 130 lots left, and there are still lots available in Westview Meadows (45 lots), 5 lots in North Ridge, at least 115 lots in Westbridge, 4 lots in Meadowbrook, 1 lot in Mary Lake (Westport), at least 76 lots in Carriage Ridge, 2 lots in Tuscany Ridge, 2 lots in Springfield Ridge near Highway 12/Springfield Corners (Waunakee Schools), and around 100 (with at least 100 more coming in the future, though probably more) in Bishop's Bay, which is located within the Waunakee school district. Don Tierney has been responsible for nearly all of the village's growth in the past 25 years, except Westview Meadows, Sixmile Creek, North Ridge, and Meadowbrook. Tierney developments have been and will continue to be approved by our village because he brings the Parade of Homes to Waunakee, which he has done every year since 1995. Officials do not want to deny a Tierney neighborhood for this reason. When Tierney brings the Parade to a subdivision, the lots in the surrounding neighborhood sell quicker, unlike North Ridge and Westview Meadows, where there are still lots available over 15 years after being originally platted. Don Tierney owns land north of Easy Street (east side of North Madison Street, under organization Maunesha Meat Company LLC), between Schumacher Road and North Ridge (under organization Quincy Ridge LLC) and east of Hogan Road to Highway 113 (under organization Orchard Valley Farms LLC). Pretty soon, there will be Tierneyvilles there as well. Our village will grow at a reasonable rate if no more Tierneyvilles are constructed. Come to tomorrow night's Village Board meeting (6:00pm, Village Hall) and say no to another Tierneyville in Waunakee. If there is a yes vote, there will be more Tierneyvilles coming.
