Matt Snider started this petition to Waterloo Region Public Health and

COVID-19 closures have affected our children's physical and mental health in so many ways.  Our children need school and extra-curricular activities to return.  Provincial recommendations have been made recently this summer to recommend that sports and extra-curricular activities should occur for the sake of our children's physical and mental health.

This decision has been left up to the local school boards and some have committed to these activities happening in September, such as Brampton, London, and Windsor regions.

In Waterloo Region, our local school boards are proceeding with the recommendation from the Waterloo Region Public Health department to not start into fall sports/extra-curricular activities.  Whether this means cancelled for the fall or for the year is unknown.

I am strongly in favour of starting fall sports and extra-curricular activities as close to normal as possible, even if it means masking, hand and equipment sanitation protocols, even proof of vaccination as a last resort.  Whatever it takes to make it happen!  Especially in high schools where everyone has had the chance to get vaccinated if they wish to protect themselves.

We need to allow our children to return to school and social activities for their overall health and well-being.  We should not be dissuaded by increasing Covid-19 case counts, unless they start to result in severe disease that overwhelms our hospital and health care system to no longer be able to provide standard medical care.

Please support and sign this petition.  Please also contact your local public health officials, local school board officials, and city/regional/provincial politicians.  Thanks
