BAN ONE USE PLASTICS!!!
BAN ONE USE PLASTICS!!!
The Issue
Hi my name is Miles and I am in the fifth grade at Lake Windward Elementary in Alpharetta, Georgia. In my TAG (talented and gifted) class, we have a project to “Be The Change”. I chose to try and help save the sea turtles.
I will give some reasons why we should save the turtles: 6 out of 7 species of sea turtles are endangered and they mistake our garbage for food! Every year 35 billion plastic bottles are wasted, that means we throw away 60 million plastic bottles per day and it either goes in a land fill or in the ocean. That means that there is a lot of garbage in the ocean. They have a name for a spot in the Pacific Ocean that a lot of the trash collect called the Pacific Garbage Patch where there is 1.8 trillion pieces of trash. This is very dangerous for sea life.
That’s a lot of waste to be in the ocean. That’s affecting all marine animals and every animal is important to the environment. So, we should start changing habits now so people can see the ocean in the future without any trash. If the waste and pollution keeps going like this the whole ocean would become a trash pile. I don’t want that happening.
Did you know? There is a bill called "H.R.5845 - Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act of 2020" in the House of Representatives right now to help stop one use plastics, but no one is talking about it. If we can get Chairperson Grace F. Napolitano to review again, then our brand new Georgia senators, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to bring this to light in the Senate, maybe we can start to fix this problemI Here is a link to read all about it.
Please help by supporting my petition to ban plastic straws and also use alternative paper ones until plastic straws are banned. I think we can convince the government this is a problem if enough people support this petition. I hope you will sign and share the petition. Thank you for your support!
