Seattle’s average rent increases are the highest of any large city in the United States. This is pricing many citizens out of their housing, causing them to move away from neighborhoods where they live and work. Rent control prevents price gouging by landlords and allows tenants to have money to spend in the neighborhood economy. Rent control/stabilization is not the whole solution, but with higher wages and more affordable/subsidized housing it can be a part of the solution.
