Save Summit Lake!!!

Save Summit Lake!!!
The Issue
***PLEASE DO NOT DONATE!!! There is an option to SKIP that. If you give money it goes to change.org and NOT to our Alliance***
We are a group of community members and friends of Summit Lake in Olympia, WA. We are asking you to help us STOP the WA State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) from selling 15 acres of trees that surround the lake and our homes! The Summit Lake Alliance strongly advocates against the DELICA lumber sale because of the extreme consequences this will have on the environment, the lake water, our home values, recreation, our health and so much more!
Our state has seen the devastating consequences when clearcutting hillsides near waterfront communities. The Ranch House, a roadside BBQ restaurant less than 2 miles from Summit Lake was completely destroyed by a landslide in 2007. A lawsuit was filed which claimed the use of "unlawful and dangerous forest practices." To avoid a lawsuit, DNR settled with the Ranch House for $800,000. The Oso, WA mudslide in 2014 caused 43 deaths and geologists blame clearcutting and water proximity. Please save Summit Lake from similar devastation.
Known impacts when clearcutting in this region:
- Rain will cause mud/landslides
- Toxic spraying after clearcutting has been linked to cancer
- More frequent algae blooms due to sediment runoff
- Wildlife will be displaced (bears, coyotes, deer, eagles, owls and more!!!)
- Creeks where protected Kokanne Salmon spawn will be destroyed
- The beauty of our lake community will be forever changed
- Increase wind damage to our homes
- Our home values will diminish
If you are a full or part-time Summit Lake resident, or one of many visitors who come to Summit Lake, please sign this petition. If you care about protecting our forests and lakes, please sign this petition. Summit Lake brings countless people to fish, swim, boat, kayak and hike every year. This is the only lake in WA State that provides drinking water directly to it's residents. Summit Lake is nestled alongside the Capitol Forest sharing an ecosystem of wildlife, old growth forest and natural beauty.
