Coach Lay was instrumental in starting a baseball program at Dixie High School. He brought baseball to Dixie.   His name adorns the current baseball field located on 700 South.  The field is being demolished and a new field is being built to the south, where Dixie Middle School used to stand.    The current Administration at Dixie High School has decided to not put coach Lays' name on the new field; instead it will be just Flyer Field. There will be a "wall of fame" at the new field.  The school said Don Lay will have his name on the wall.  We feel if it wasn't for Coach Lay, there would be no wall. We are petitioning the Washington County School District to overturn the school and name the new field "Don Lay Flyer Field".  The precedent for this has already been set as the new football field was named after coach Walt Brooks.  We need to honor the legacy of Coach Lay and all he did for Dixie High School.
