Give us back our hiking trail

The Issue

We have just been advised that a significant portion of the Veteran’s Way loop has been designated for a “Fat Bike” trail for the winter and we will no longer be permitted to walk there.  This portion of the trail is necessary for hikers as it is the only way to complete the loop.  This is also the only trail locally which is not hilly,  so it is accessible for seniors and anyone else with mobility issues.

This trail has always been one of the best places in Wasaga Beach for hiking, snowshoeing, dog walking, cross country skiing, families etc.

These days we are extremely limited in what we are allowed to do.  There is no more skiing, restaurants, movies or socializing of any sort.  About the only thing we are allowed to do is go for a nature walk.  Now that has been taken away from us.  This trail has become extremely popular during the shutdown as it is large enough that even when there are dozens of cars parked at the trail head you rarely see another person.

This trail closing was done with no public input or warning, all of a sudden there was a sign saying we could no longer walk there.  When I called the number on the sign I was told by a gentleman “these are our trails and we can do what we want with them”.   I thought that provincial parks were paid for with taxpayers money, not a private organization.   I had no better luck when I called the Wasaga Beach office of Ontario Parks.

Please help us reverse this decision and give us back our trails.
